Robert L. Stearns

Robert was a friend of artist Lawrence Earle and invited the artist to paint the people and landscapes of mountain area in southeastern Kentucky on the Stearns estate in 1911 and again 1912. Although his business interests were mainly in lumber (Ludington, MI), Robert was living in Grand Rapids during the 1910 census.

1. Robert Lyon1 Stearns (Justus Smith2, Heman Swift3, Joseph4, Elias5, Oliver6, Boaz7, Samuel8), son of Justus Smith Stearns and Pauline Lyon, was born in Conneaut, OH March 14, 1872. Robert was a friend of artist Lawrence Earle and invited the artist to paint the people and landscapes of mountain area in southeastern Kentucky on the Stearns estate in 1911 and again 1912.

Second Generation

2. Justus Smith2 Stearns (Heman Swift3, Joseph4, Elias5, Oliver6, Boaz7, Samuel8) was born in Winchester, Middlesex Co, MA April 10, 1845. Justus died 1933 at 88 years of age. He married Pauline Lyon in Ashtabula, Ashtabula Co, OH, March 4, 1868. Lumberman of Ludington, Mich. He md., 1870, Pauline Lyon, of Conneaut, OH, where their only child was born. He was Presidential Elector for Benjamin Harrison in his last campaign, and, in that capacity, represented the Ninth Congressional District of Mich.; one of the most extensive lumber-dealers in the country, having large plants in Mich. and Wis.

Third Generation

4. Heman Swift3 Stearns (Joseph4, Elias5, Oliver6, Boaz7, Samuel8) was born in Bennington, Bennington Co, VT August 25, 1819. Heman died March 14, 1878 in Ludington, Mason Co, MI, at 58 years of age. He married Mabel L. Smith in prob. Fredonia, NY, 1844. Heman was listed as the head of a family on the 1850 Census in Pomfret, Chautauqua Co, NY.

Heman Swift Stearns and Mabel L. Smith had the following child:

5. Mabel L.3 Smith birth date unknown. She married Heman Swift Stearns in prob. Fredonia, NY, 1844. (See Heman Swift Stearns for the children resulting from this marriage.)

Fourth Generation

6. Joseph4 Stearns (Elias5, Oliver6, Boaz7, Samuel8) was born in prob. Windsor, Berkshire Co, MA May 5, 1777. Joseph died October 17, 1855 at 78 years of age. He married Susan Rogers 1804.

7 i. Sidney3 Stearns was born in Bennington, Bennington Co, VT November 14, 1805.
8 ii. Halsey Stearns was born in Bennington, Bennington Co, VT April 16, 1808.
9 iii. Horace Stearns was born in Bennington, Bennington Co, VT March 16, 1810.
10 iv. Charlotte Stearns was born in Bennington, Bennington Co, VT January 25, 1813. Charlotte died March 29, 1860 in Fredonia, NY, at 47 years of age.
11 v. Sophia Stearns was born in Bennington, Bennington Co, VT May 12, 1815.
12 vi. Susan Stearns was born in Bennington, Bennington Co, VT August 27, 1817. Susan died July 10, 1856 in prob. Lyons, Wayne Co, NY, at 38 years of age. She married S. Mead.
+ 4 vii. Heman Swift Stearns was born August 25, 1819.
13 viii. Henry Stearns was born in Bennington, Bennington Co, VT January 3, 1821. Henry died July 9, 1881 in Fredonia, NY, at 60 years of age.
14 ix. Harriet Stearns was born in Bennington, Bennington Co, VT December 30, 1823.

16. Elias5 Stearns (Oliver6, Boaz7, Samuel8) was born 1754. He married ? Hutchins 1776.

29. Oliver6 Stearns (Boaz7, Samuel8) was born October 4, 1732. He married Priscilla Bateman 1753.

Oliver Stearns and Priscilla Bateman had the following children:

31 iii. Stephen Stearns was born 1761.
32 iv. Daniel Stearns was born September 8, 1764.

34 vi. Priscilla Stearns was born 1768. Priscilla died May 1, 1799 at 30 years of age. She married Isaac Sears 1793.

Seventh Generation

36. Boaz7 Stearns (Samuel8) was born in Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts September 2, 1702. Boaz died September 15, 1796 in Mansfield, Tolland Co, CT, at 94 years of age. He married Lydia Shepherd in prob. Dedham, Norfolk Co, MA, 1725.

Boaz Stearns and Lydia Shepherd had the following children:

37 i. Samuel6 Stearns was born September 2, 1726.
38 ii. Mercy Stearns was born April 22, 1730.
+ 29 iii. Oliver Stearns was born October 4, 1732.
39 iv. Mary Stearns was born 1734.
40 v. Miriam Stearns was born May 17, 1737. Miriam died February 20, 1810 at 72 years of age.
41 vi. Sarah Stearns was born 1739. Sarah died 1741 at 2 years of age.
42 vii. Isaac Stearns was born 1744. Isaac died 1749 at 5 years of age.
43 viii. Sarah Stearns was born June 24, 1746.
44 ix. Ebenezer Stearns was born 1748. Ebenezer died 1748 at less than one year of age.

47. Samuel8 Stearns was born in Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts October 16, 1666. He married Mary Brown in prob. Dedham, Norfolk Co, MA, July 9, 1696.

48 i. Samuel7 Stearns was born in Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts May 15, 1697. Samuel died February 3, 1722 in Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, at 24 years of age.
49 ii. Mary Stearns was born in Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts January 29, 1699. She married Timothy Harris in Dorchester, Suffolk Co, MA, November 5, 1724.
50 iii. Nathaniel Stearns was born in Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts August 22, 1700.

51 v. Hannah Stearns was born in Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts November 28, 1704.

55 ix. Mercy Stearns was born in Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts January 16, 1715. Mercy died December 31, 1722 in Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, at 7 years of age.
56 x. Deliverance Stearns was born in Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts January 16, 1715. Deliverance died March 16, 1715 in Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, at less than one year of age.

60. Nathaniel9 Stearns (Shubael10 Sternes) was born in Raydon, Suffolk, ENG January 26, 1622. He married twice. He married Mary Stone 1660. Mary died May 10, 1684 in Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. He married Mary Raine October 24, 1687.

Nathaniel Stearns and Mary Stone had the following children:

61 i. Mary8 Stearns was born August 22, 1661. Mary died December 25, 1733 in Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, at 72 years of age. She married Joseph Wight in prob. Dedham, Norfolk Co, MA, April 22, 1685.

62 iii. Nathaniel Stearns was born September 4, 1668.
63 iv. John Stearns was born March 23, 1671.
64 v. Isaac Stearns was born August 12, 1672. Isaac died August 13, 1676 at 4 years of age.

Tenth Generation

66. Shubael10 Sternes was born in Nayland, Suffolk, ENG about 1598. He married Mary Upton.
